Pricing
300 USD per room per month with a minimum of three months + in commitment intervals of three months (ie 3, 6, 9, or 12 months)
For example, if you want to work on one bedroom and one bathroom for the minimum of three months, that’s a total of 1800, or 600 per month. If you want to do an entire seven room house in three months (not that I’d ever recommend that chaos unless absolutely necessary), that’s a total of 6300, or 2100 per month for 3 months. If you want to do the same seven room house taking it slowly + focusing on one room at a time, that’s still a total of 6300, but at 300 per month for 21 months.
* I offer a limited number of partial scholarships per year. Contact me at medorakeadesign@gmail.com with information about your project + budget if you’d like to be considered for a scholarship. Priority goes to BIPOC, queer, and / or disabled folx.
** I use the word “room” because that’s what most of us are familiar with, although this way of dividing up our homes is a rigid, colonized way of understanding space. I would absolutely still love to work with you if your home has spaces that can’t be divided up into rooms or if your environment looks different than a common house or apartment.
What to expect
Pick a timeframe
Recommended timeframe is based on how many rooms we’re doing, what the rest of your budget looks like, how many other people are involved in the decision-making, how much you plan to source secondhand, how many hours per week you can dedicate to bringing the vision to life, etc. If you’re unsure, I can help you figure out the best timeline fit for you during our consultation call. The 3 / 6 / 9 / 12 month timeframe starts once we’ve agreed upon our collective, primary goals + an order of operations.Getting to know you, your style, and your space
Once you’ve booked the free consultation (via Calendly + Zoom), I’ll send over a questionnaire. The more you can fill out, the more I can help during our consultation + the quicker we can hit the ground running afterwards. I’ll usually follow up via email with notes from the meeting + a few extra clarifying questions. My goal is to understand your values + priorities, how you want to use your space, and how to implement your style in your home in ways that make sense for you.Planning & problem solving
Function first. Let’s determine ideal furniture sizing, storage needs, layout options, etc. I know this is the boring part, but it’s necessary if you actually want to enjoy your home. If you haven’t already, start thinking about what an ideal + realistic day looks like for you for the foreseeable future (the more detailed, the better). This is also the part where I’ll need to know about anything that impacts how you exist in your home, from trauma, to disabilities / illnesses, to allergies / sensitivities, to relationship structures, etc.Dreaming
Let’s scroll through your pinterest board(s) and put together a gorgeous mood board to guide us + keep us on track throughout the next 3 / 6 / 9 / 12 months. We’ll work together to define what your vibe is, picking out specific colors, textures, materials, shapes, etc that can help us achieve that vibe.Decision-making
Merging the practical + the pretty. This is the hard (but exciting!) part. Everything’s fun + games until we have to start making decisions. What works beautifully in a Pinterest photo won’t necessarily be the best fit within the context of your specific home + your specific needs + your specific budget, so this step is all about making sure that we’re successfully applying the colors, textures, materials, shapes, and overall vibe to your home in a way that takes into account the furniture sizing, storage needs, layout options, etc that we established in the functional section.Shopping
As much as I love re-imagining what you already have to fit your current needs better, most projects will require exchanging money for objects whether they’re brand new, handmade, or vintage. This is an incredible opportunity to support small + local businesses as much as possible, as well as working towards a more sustainable + long-term mindset around bringing new objects into your life. How was something produced? How long do you intent to keep it? Once it’s no longer serving you, will you be able to pass it on to someone else? At its end-of-life, will it be able to return to the earth in a healthy (or at least a non-harmful) way?Documenting your home
If you’re comfortable sharing your home with others (whether that’s in a youtube video or just on this website for future clients to see), I’ll guide you through the process of taking photos and / or videos of your home. Even if you’re not comfortable sharing your home publicly, I’d still recommend doing this for yourself for those times when life gets a little more chaotic than usual, because it can be motivating to see beautiful photos of your home that remind you that you love having tables + countertops that aren’t cluttered with stuff.Review the process
What went well? What would we change for next time? Did we communicate well, and how could we improve future communications? Did the timing go according to plan and feel like a good pace for everyone involved? How fulfilled are you with the “end results?” (in quotes, because our homes are ever-evolving). Overall, did we like working with each other? Do we want to discuss or set up any future plans?
